The year 2008 has started and I am sure everybody is excited about turning over a new leaf and entering a new year. If you are gadget and electronic freak like me then I’m sure you are excited about all the new gadgets the new year will brings as well. I’m going to talk about a few of the gadgets I’m most excited about which we will see in 2008.

First off the SanDisk Sansa TakeTV Video Player. This cool little gadget bridges the gap between your TV and computer. You plug the SanDisk TakeTV flash drive into your computer and download video on to it. Anything from YouTube videos to funny videos clips you get as attachments in your email. Then you place the TakeTV drive into the TakeTV cradle which is hooked up to your TV. That is it. The videos on the flash drive can now be played on your TV. The first thing you need to know with going into an Apple Store is not to buy apples. It is to buy Apple (A.K.A Mac) products. You are not going in there to find a Windows PC or just any other PC, mp3 players, phones etc. You are going in there to look for Apple products that was all started by Steve Jobs. The apple stores had well over one hundred million people that visited the stores with over $4 billion in revenue last year.(approximately) I am pretty sure that most of the computer places I visited recently wasn’t anywhere near these numbers.

If you are going in there for a computer, you should know that Apple (Mac) is different than Windows. I would say also that the software is totally different but that seems to be less and less as time goes by. I mean it is obvious that Microsoft Office is not going to run on a Mac as of yet but most software that I get as long as it is not Microsoft has Mac or Windows on the box. This topic seems to be complicated to the point of being entirely meaningless. But, if we go back in time to the era before the electronic age, it will become obvious that humanity have come a very long way regarding the variety of avenues by means of which we choose to entertain ourselves.

I am not a student of communications, and I have not read any of Marshall McLuhan’s books, but according to an article which can be found at http://individual.utoronto.ca/ markfederman/article_mediumist hemessage.htm and written by one of his followers, Mark Federman, the idea that modern society has become obsessed by media-driven entertainment is one that McLuhan appears to have predicted a long time ago, and the topic of this debate is just a proof of his foresight.

I agree with McLuhan that “the medium is the message,” which is why I think that, as the medium or shall we say the avenue by means of which we have chosen to entertain ourselves have evolved overtime, the tendency has been towards a progressive dependency on technological development.
